I was running my alt warrior through the Blackrock Mountain when it struck me: come next expansion, this place will be pretty much gone.
Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep heroics have been announced, so they will remain for sure (although they will likely get a little polish). But the other dungeons? Some instances that served as endgame once – like Upper Blackrock Spire – have been useless since they increased the level cap.
In fact, the entire mountain is useless. No one will do a UBRS raid other than getting the Jenkins title these days. Blackrock Depths is infamous for being the biggest and most complex of all the dungeons, bar none. Molten Core is even more useless. No one is going to bother to collect up to 40 people and raid it for anything other than nostalgia.
So blowing up Blackrock Mountain seems pretty ok, doesn’t it? No one is really going to miss it.
That is, until the nostalgia kicks in together with the knowledge that it is gone. Forever. They blew it up. You cannot go there anymore even if you wished it.
And who knows what more instances they will be removing when they redo the zones? Dire Maul? Scholomance?
In patch 3.3 we will hopefully together with Icewing Citadel get a cross server LFG system. Until then the chance of getting a group for any sub-70 instance is terribly small (I know, I have tried with my warrior), but once we get this system I know that I will start an alt then with the sole purpose of doing every instance one more time, just for the sake of it. It might be boring, it might be dreadful, but at least I can rest easier when the expansion comes and the blow half the world up.
