The Cross Server LFG system on RP servers

I-smell-a-sitcomOne of the features that were announced for World of Warcraft at BlizzCon is Cross Server LFG, and it’s not coming in the expansion but in patch 3.3.0. Basically it will work like the Battleground system, where players from the entire Battlegroup are drawn together into a game. You queue up for instances in the LFG system like normal, but the selection of players is from your Battlegroup and not just your realm.

For max-level instances this will help a bit, but it’s not way near as useful as it will be for low-level instances. At this point – two expansions into the game – not many are leveling new characters, and the prospect of finding a group for Shadowfang Keep is very daunting. But throw together all characters in the 18 – 25 level range across the entire Battlegroup and you just might have a very good chance of scraping together a full group without wanting to bash your head in the wall.

With a few exceptions all Battlegroups have one or two RP servers thrown in together with the rest of mixed PvP and PvE servers. In my Battlegroup (Rampage EU) we have 13 realms and 2 of those are RP-PvP. Since that the LFG system probably won’t care what server you are on (if people from those RP servers only saw queued players from two realms in the entire Battlegroup it wouldn’t be much of an upgrade, and some Battlegroups only have one RP server) a question arises.

What will happen when people from a RP server get thrown into a group from a normal server with the LFG system?

Now I only have limited experience with RP servers, but I can already see the drama arises when the “By the Light of Elune”-RP people get thrown into a group with “That’s what your mom said”-PvP people. I smell a sitcom!

  1. First off, Regis your back. This news excites me. Your so added to my blogroll, and ya know me from Way of the Chosen, that blog is HUGE. LOL>

Now to the topic on hand, I not huge on Pugging, so I don’t want to deal with douchebags on my server, let alone on other servers.

There will be very little drama – the people on RP servers who want to stick to in-character groups will not use the LFG system. QED.

Then again, there will be many “UR MOM” types who will start bullying the folks from RP realms just because they’re from an RP realm. At which point I have to point out that I’ve seen more high-quality instance runners on RP realms than on PvP realms. PvP realms are full of turds, RP realms are full of poets. It takes more brains to be a poet than a turd.

      Well said ;)

  3. Keep telling yourself that.
